The 'blue globe' is displayed in UVexplorer when a device is unmanaged and UVexplorer is not able to log into it with SNMP credentials.

The behavior of the unmanaged device will vary, depending on the device itself:

1. If the device has an IP address and will respond to PING, it will show up as a non-SNMP device (with IP and MAC) but it will be connected to an "Unmanaged Device" link that shows that "some device" is bridging/forwarding traffic.

Other devices that are connected to the switch will also be on that link.  (The uplink will show the link to a "managed" switch).

2. If the device has NO IP, then you will only see the devices that are connected to the unmanaged switch on a "link" that says "Unmanaged Device".

3. If the device DOES have an IP and is not showing in the discovery results, please ensure the IP subnet is included in your SEED scope of your discovery settings.

If you the 'blue globes' should be a "manageable" device then it is either not configured correctly with SNMP or the correct SNMP credential is not being used.

You can verify this by reviewing the 'Credentials' tab in the device window:

Then right click the device, and go to 'Tools > MIB Walker':

Select the SNMP credential to test and select the 'Get-Table' button:

If there are no results, that is the incorrect SNMP credential for that device:

PLEASE NOTE:

In some cases, the SNMP Timeout is the issue causing the non-connection. To change this go to the SNMP credential in 'Protocol / Credential Settings' and increase the 'Timeout' to 4000:
